Bath Time!
Its bath time for Marlowe! This picture was taken after Marlowe's second bath, which was much more successful than his first bath. Mom and Dad had some practice and are starting to get the hang of things now. This picture shows Marlowe snuggled up after the bath in his hippo towel, courtesy of Andrew and Lauren Norelli. Marlowe is trying to relax from the excitement of the bath by sucking on as many fingers as he can fit in his mouth, a technique he uses often.

Saturday Night
Mom out to dinner with Brooke and friends tonight, it was finally time for some male bonding between Marlowe and dad. But that idea only went so far, and by the time mom was ready to leave for dinner, the calvary had already been called and had arrived in the form of Grandma Asbury. Words can't describe how helpful Grandma was, but they can describe the moment captured here. Wearing a onesie he recently received from Grandma's friend Diane Holsenbeck, Marlowe is here pondering just why he's been plucked from a comfortable perch on the couch and placed upon a Boppie, under harsh light, in the middle of the kitchen table. "A picture for posterity" was the answer he received, which Marlowe, having yet to develop a sense of nostalgia--nor a sense of time for that matter--found less than compelling. Nonetheless, he'll thank his parents for this photo one day; at least that's what mom and dad keep telling themselves.

The Weigh-in
Our doctors were a bit concerned about Marlowe's weight at his last pediatrician appointment. So in the days since, Marlowe has been working hard to get his weight up (eating right, building strength, etc.). We learned today that all of his hard work has paid off: Marlowe weighed in at a husky 8 lbs., 9 oz., just where the doctors wanted him to be. We celebrated only briefly before Marlowe ran out of steam. Here he sleeps a few hours later, his hands still raised above his head in triumph.
Dad schooling Marlowe on one thing or another (perhaps in preparation for his weigh-in?).

Marlowe's First Video
Marlowe's first published video. In it you'll see a range of emotions. Early on he treats his mother like a pesky paparazzo (16 seconds in); later he nearly loses his composure (at the 40-second mark) before being pacified by an off-screen handler.

Stretching Out in European Style
Marlowe Patten Asbury
Bret (sporting a commemorative beard) photographed with Marlowe for the first time.
Caroline holding Marlowe for the first time.
What we've all been waiting for: Baby Asbury has finally arrived. He ultimately became Marlowe Patten Asbury, but not until three days later.
The don't call it labor for nothing. This is Caroline thirty hours after checking in to have her son; she somehow manages a smile.
Caroline at 41 weeks (one week overdue). Caroline went to the hospital just after the new year, on January 3.
